Curious Quilter

Hi, I’m Sue — the maker behind Curious Quilter. This space is part blog, part experiment lab, and part journal. I created it to share what I’ve learned (and am still learning) about quilting — from stitching my first seams to trying new techniques, and everything in between.

My love for sewing began as a child when my mother taught me to sew. I started by making my own clothes, experimenting with fabrics and designs, before eventually discovering the world of quilting. Since then, I’ve been captivated by the endless possibilities this art form offers, especially when I discovered improv quilting. The freedom to piece fabrics together intuitively, without strict patterns, opened up a whole new way of expressing creativity for me. Along the way, I’ve discovered that every quilt tells a story, and each technique brings new ways to express creativity. Through Curious Quilter, I hope to inspire others to step outside their comfort zones, try new methods, and embrace the joy of making something truly unique.

This website is my way of documenting the different quilting techniques I’ve tried, from foundation paper piecing and improv quilting to facing finishes and creative free-motion quilting, sharing what works (and what doesn’t), and encouraging others to experiment. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced quilter wanting to explore alternative methods, I invite you to join me on this journey. Let’s stitch, learn, and create together!
